Last week’s snowstorm in Austin, Texas tested many of us, some people, desperately. With a few exceptions, our team was without some combination of power, heat, water, internet or cell service, which is representative of our city as a whole. While not true for everyone, a sense of normalcy is beginning to return, thanks to relatively small acts neighbor to neighbor, and bigger acts on the part of so many local businesses.
It will never be close to complete, but we’ve compiled a growing list of Austin area businesses we’d like to shout out for the way they have been, and are, showing up for our community. Please support them as you can.
Every gallon of drinkable water produced or shared, every cup of hot coffee or needed groceries shifted the trajectory for one or many. The utility professionals who showed up to shoulder their responsibilities in freezing temperatures, regardless of their own circumstances, restored warmth, light and hope. The already pressed healthcare professionals, some of whom evacuated patients from hospitals without power during the snowstorms, continued to care for and heal us. And despite significant hits to their supply chains, Austin’s restaurants helped to make food and drink available.
It’s been a week like no other, in a city like no other. To everyone who made life a little easier for one person or for many, know that you made a difference.
